Mothers day

I have noticed that most people wrote wonderful things about Mothers Day on their blogs. I did have a good day, but I always feel very uncomfortable at church on Mothers Day. This year it was even worse since I had to turn my buttocks to the congregation and lead the darling children in songs that every other mother in the room would enjoy..but I digress..
The reason I don't like church on Mothers Day is because the speakers (usually men with perfect wives) go out of their way to make us all feel like losers. I always feel bad for the single women or the childless women in the congregation who are being preached to that motherhood is the noblest calling in the world-- how is that supposed to make them feel??
Anyway, in my grandma's ward they did a ban on Mothers Day. They instead had a Women's day. The bishop took 8 less known women in the ward and did the program on them. He chose a single, never married woman and had her primary kid do a spotlight on her life. She wrote a poem about what a fabulous example this woman was and the Christlike qualities she possesses. A man got up and said, " I haven't been to church in 30 years, and after today, it will be 30 more, but I wanted to come and honor my mother who many of you don't know." My grandma (in her late 80's) said it was the best Mothers Day program she had ever heard because she left knowing more people in the ward, and didn't feel like a failure! I thought this was a great idea! There JillO, I posted!

First off let me start by saying I AM SO PROUD THAT YOU POSTED! Good girl!
Second, I really like the Women's Day idea. That is what it should be. There are so many amazing women that are not mothers that do so much for my little family alone. I think if I am ever in the place to make this suggestion, I will do so. That is really nice. Thanks for the great inspiration.

I like Mother's Day because I feel like I can be lazy and not feel guilty...because you are right, there's lots of guilt associated with the blasted holiday!

A friend said it best, you want to be like the mothers that they sing about in those primary songs, but that usually just ain't happening.
